I really wanted to share about a postpartum care kit for c-section moms, but I’ve never had a c-section before.
So I asked my sister-in-law to share all her favorite c section must haves that she would put into a c-section recovery kit gift for new moms.
So enjoy these c section recovery items to best be prepared if you will need to have a c-section.
By Savannah Hedrick
Over the last 5 years I have had 3 C-sections. Each one was different and unique in their own way and learned a little more about the recovery process on each one.
The first one was unplanned; as labor was not progressing well and the baby was not in a great position. After laboring for 36 hours, in a way, I was relieved to hear that a C-section was needed and it was all going to be over soon and finally I would get to meet my baby.
However, that was my hardest recovery due to the exhaustion from labor and having absolutely no idea how to recover from a C-section.
The next two were planned so I was able to prepare myself a little more for those and be able to put together a c section postpartum care kit for myself, which made recovery much easier and helped speed it up some too.

These were some of my favorite c section postpartum essentials:
Comfy Pants
You will definitely want some c section recovery pants!
I would say just get them some post c section pants one or two sizes bigger than you would normally wear, you don’t want any extra pressure on the incision site, it is still a major abdominal surgery, you want to be comfortable!
I had most of my babies during the summer so I wanted to be cool and comfortable, these were my favorite pants.

Comfy Grip Socks
These socks or something similar were wonderful for the hospital. I’m always cold and love anything that keeps me warm and comfortable.
Since regular fuzzy socks were too slick on the hospital floor, and the socks the hospital gave me were not very soft, I tried these out on number two and used them again for number three!
While it is not necessary for postpartum care after cesarean, sometimes you just need something comfy!
C-Section Underwear
C section postpartum underwear is another one of the top c-section recovery must haves you don’t want to skimp on.

High waisted, soft, comfortable underwear is very necessary. Make sure you don’t get them too small so you have room for the postpartum pads and still not be squished in your underwear.
Nothing is worse than too tight of underwear anyway on a normal day, so why would you want to make your recovery that more uncomfortable?
Peri Bottle
There are a couple different styles of the peri bottle, it is completely your preference on which one to choose.
There is the original style that is just the bottle with a spout, looks very similar to just a regular water bottle. You will most likely get one from the hospital.
The other option is the upside down peri bottle, making it a little easier to spray upward and using gravity to be able to keep a more constant flow of water.
Postpartum Abdominal Support
Counter pressure or support is wonderful, just standing up out of a chair or getting out of bed can be very difficult depending on where you are at in your postpartum recovery journey.
At the beginning I prefer to use an abdominal support binder, it is adjustable; make it a little tighter for more support or loosen it up some if you don’t feel like you need too much extra support at that moment.
There is also just the good old belly band (get one for free with these free pregnancy items), you may have one of these sitting around still from your pregnancy.
They are usually not adjustable, just slip it on and it’ll give light support. I use this later in the recovery journey if I’m still feeling like I need a little help, but not very much.
Stool Softener and Gas Relief
Recovering from a major abdominal surgery, sometimes things slow down a lot and the medications the doctors recommend don’t usually help much with that either, so stool softener to the rescue!

There are tons of options on the market for stool softener; Colace, Dulcolax, off-brand versions at every store or Amazon. My personal preference is Colace.
On occasion, along with using a stool softener during this process, it tends to create some extra uncomfortable gas, simethicone or some kind of gas relief helps a lot with alleviating internal pressure and discomfort postpartum.
