What are Postpartum Diapers?
Postpartum diapers are basically adult diapers that are made to be super absorbent. After giving birth, you will have heavy bleeding, heavier than any period you’ve experienced. Your body spent nine months preparing and storing for your little one, of course, it will take a while to come out!
Postpartum diapers were made to help you not worry or stress about leaking. They are super comfortable to help you focus on more important parts of recovery. With after-birth underwear, you won’t have to worry about your postpartum bleeding at all!
Why Should I Get Postpartum Diapers?
Postpartum diapers are very convenient and can help you worry less during your 4th trimester.
This is a time to rest and focus on your baby. With the traditional pads the hospital gives you after delivery, you will constantly have to change, adjust, and worry if you are leaking. With postpartum diapers all that goes away!
Postpartum diapers are made for heavy bleeding and will absorb everything. Sometimes, even postpartum pads cannot absorb enough to keep up with the heavy flow.
I chose postpartum diapers vs pads during my second postpartum period and it was 100x better than my first time around. I didn’t get a huge rash like I did with postpartum pads, I never leaked, and I was much more comfortable!
These diapers are some of the things new moms need for themselves that they often forget, so you don’t want to miss out on these!
Postpartum Diapers vs. Maternity Pads
There are a few pros and cons to both postpartum diapers and postpartum pads. Here are a few of them:
Postpartum Diapers
| Pros | Cons |
| – Less leakage | – Bulky |
| – Easy to use | – More expensive |
| – Better night protection | |
| – High waisted to keep in the postpartum belly | |
| – Tear away seams for easier disposal on some | |
| – Less postpartum rashes |
Postpartum Pads
| Pros | Cons |
| – Free from the hospital | – Hard to adjust |
| – Less noticeable when wearing | – More chances to leak |
| – Cheaper | – Have to change more often |
| – Better for C-sections | – More rashes |
| – Easier to carry for travel |
Both are beneficial to have on hand, and many moms like to use them together. It is all about preference! It is often best to wear postpartum diapers for the beginning of your recovery and switch to maternity pads after the first week or two.

How Many Postpartum Diapers Do I Need?
Postpartum bleeding can be anywhere from 4-6 weeks typically. However, you may prefer not to wear diapers the entire time.
There are usually less than 20 postpartum diapers in a package. If you were to wear diapers after delivery for the first two weeks until you don’t have a heavy flow, you should be fine on two packages, or about 40 diapers. That is if you use 3 diapers a day for two weeks.
From there if you are still bleeding you can always grab more or switch to postpartum pads which are cheaper.
Add these diapers to your postpartum recovery kit.
