10 Best Activities To Do with 2 Month Old
Here are some of my favorite activities to do with 2 month old babies! These are great for working on your child’s development and having quality time with your newborn baby.
Babies may be the absolute cutest, but let’s face it…it can be hard to entertain them. We aren’t exactly taught how to play with a 2 month old, but the most important thing at this stage other than attachment is play time.
They’re developing more body awareness and cognitive abilities, so it’s the perfect time to add these games into their daily routine.
The simple activities in this post will help them learn essential skills while keeping them entertained!
I don’t really give toys to my little ones in the first few months of their lives, I think the best way to entertain them is through spending time with them.
So here are some fun activities to do with your 2 month old!
Easy Activities To Do With 2 Month Old Babies
Some activities and developmental games for your 2 month old can be so easy that they don’t seem like activities at all, like peekaboo or babywearing.
As simple as they are, these ideas provide a new sensory experience and help improve skills like hand-eye coordination, sense of touch, and more.
So many different things entertain and nurture your bundle of joy, so don’t feel like you have to get it just right or follow all of the ideas in this post.
Do a couple a day and see which ones become favorites!

Peekaboo
Peekaboo is a classic game that helps your baby meet several developmental milestones and keeps them laughing.
It’s a great way to stimulate a baby’s senses, build social skills, and strengthen object permanence. Plus, it helps them recognize the sound of your voice even if they can’t see your face.
Play peekaboo when you’re babywearing, cuddling, going for a walk outside, or just when you remember!
Tummy Time
Some hate it and some love it, but tummy time is one of the best things to build your baby’s physical development.
It strengthens their neck, arm, and shoulder muscles, all of which are building blocks for other milestones like rolling over, sitting up, and crawling.
One of the best tummy-time tips is to start doing it for short periods at a time, even if it’s less than five minutes.

You can do tummy time on your chest, a soft surface like your baby’s crib, play mat, or a nursing pillow.
Put a baby-safe mirror and soft toys in front of your baby so they can see their own facial expressions and eventually reach for the toys.
Cuddle
Your baby’s emotional development is formed through close connections and activities like cuddling, babywearing, and making eye contact.
Plus, it releases oxytocin for both of you, which strengthens attachment and lowers anxiety. We all know the calming feeling of cuddle time, and it turns out it’s also an excellent way to promote your baby’s development all the way around.
If you’re worried you’re cuddling babe too much, don’t be. It’s been proven that you simply can’t cuddle or hold your baby too much and doing so won’t spoil them.
Instead, it’s vital to mom and baby’s mental and physical health and development. So, soak up the cuddles while you can!
If you have back pain while you babywear, try these best baby carriers to help with back pain.
Read
Reading to a two-month-old baby might sound a bit crazy, because they can’t understand what you’re saying anyway, right? Well, it’s actually a great way to build language skills, have quality time together, and improve social interaction.
Plus, it’s been shown that reading is essential for brain development for so many reasons [source].
What you read doesn’t matter very much when they’re this young, but picture books can provide visual stimulation, especially when it’s propped up during tummy time.
Having a daily routine where you read before naps and bed can lead to healthy sleep routines later on, as well.
Dance
Dancing with your baby isn’t just fun, it also provides vestibular stimulation, which is important for balance, coordination, posture, and more.
It’s also good for strengthening your baby’s senses like hearing, touch, and vision. Plus, dancing helps the development of cognitive skills and body awareness.
Just dancing back and forth, swaying, gently bouncing, and going in different directions is one of the best sensory activities for 2 month old.

It’s easiest to dance when they’re in a baby carrier this young, but you can start holding them on your hip when they’re strong enough to get to a sitting position on their own.
Sing and Listen to Music
Besides calming your baby down, singing and listening to music is important for language development, learning about different sounds, strengthening your baby’s attention span, and so much more.
Even at this age, classic nursery rhymes can help your little one learn to build better communication and emotional regulation skills that they’ll use later in life.
Sing your favorite songs when cuddling, dancing, walking, and during bath time. You’ll bond with your baby even more and boost their brain development at the same time.
If you’re too tired and your baby’s mobile plays music, use it to your advantage! Two-month-old babies love mobile songs, too!
Hold and Play With Baby’s Hands
Playing with your baby’s hands is a great way to introduce sensory play. Just going in circular motions or in different directions will help them learn gross and fine motor skills.
You can put interesting objects with different textures in your baby’s hand to boost sensory development, too.
Bring their hands to different parts of their face to help them learn to do it on their own and strengthen their muscles at the same time.
Doing this with colorful toys also builds their visual development.

One of my favorite ways to do this is with a Peekaboo Pillow. It is so easy to use, just sits up nice on my legs, and allows me to stretch my babies arms and legs, hold and talk to them without hurting my arms!
Go Outside
When in doubt, just get out of the house! While there are many things to do with your 2 month old outside, simply going for a walk is enough to entertain them and get some fresh air.
They’ll see so many different objects and bright colors that no toy can compete with.
If you want you and your babe to have some social interaction, meet up with friends, too. Many neighborhoods have walking groups just for moms and it’s a great way to meet new mom friends, especially if you’re a new parent.
Social development is important to nurture and helps shape your baby’s personality, so go to the mommy and me playdates and family gatherings!
Give a Baby Massage
Babies love and need massages, even as a two month old! Use a simple carrier oil, like avocado oil or use an herbal infused oil that is safe for babies like lavender or chamomile.

Here is how to do a baby massage, but really all you need to do is rub and massage gently all over their body.
Do Some Stretches
Just like a massage, stretching is really helpful for your little one. It can help them to prepare for bed, and can even help with things like gas or an upset stomach.
We love doing the bicycle motion with their legs and gently rotating their arms and legs in circles.
Make sure to be gentle and with time, you will figure out what your little one likes.
What to Do With 2 Month Old When You’re Out of Ideas
Even if you do all of these 2-month-old baby activities, your baby will still have days when nothing seems to keep them happy and you’ll have days where you’re too tired to read or dance.
The following ideas may not seem like a great activity by themselves, but can still entertain your 2 month old so give them a try!
- Use a play gym
- Make funny faces
- Go on a car ride
- Play with a stuffed animal
As you get to know your baby, you’ll find new ways to keep them happy and growing, so don’t sweat it if they don’t seem to like anything right now.
