Have you ever heard of postpartum diapers? Check out the best postpartum diapers for new moms to use during the 4th trimester that are natural and don’t use any harsh chemicals!
Postpartum is a time to heal and recover so you can be an amazing mom. For me, I found that part of that healing required diapers, and lots of them.
I researched and tried to find the best natural postpartum diapers to use after giving birth. So hopefully, you can skip the research and use any of these postpartum diaper or pads.
Maybe you’ve seen the mesh underwear and long huge pads the hospital gives you and maybe you are completely clueless. Either way, know this: postpartum healing after giving birth is not easy at all. But, there are definitely things to do to help you along your journey.
Instead of using the mesh underwear and uncomfortable pads from the hospital that don’t stay in place and are just not fun, why not try disposable postpartum underwear!
There are so many incontinence underwear that are perfect for postpartum too. They often are more discreet and way more secure.
I used the postpartum pads with my first and hated it. I often leaked and it was so difficult for the pads to stay in place with the mesh underwear.
For my second child, I decided to try out postpartum diapers and they made a HUGE difference. I loved the experience.
So, here are my favorite postpartum diapers to use!
Quick on time? My favorite and most recommended postpartum diapers that are natural: Rael Disposable Underwear.
What are Postpartum Diapers?
Postpartum diapers are basically adult diapers that are made to be super absorbent. Some brands have them as incontinence underwear while others are actually made for postpartum moms.
After giving birth, you are going to bleed heavily, for a few months even. Normal pads you typically wear during your period aren’t going to hold all that.
Instead of stressing about leaking, postpartum diapers take all that away. I even found them to be quite comfortable, all things considered!
With after-birth underwear, you won’t have to worry about your postpartum bleeding at all! I never leaked with postpartum diapers!
Why Should I Get Postpartum Diapers?
Postpartum diapers are very convenient. You have to worry about an entire other human being, why worry about leaking or being uncomfortable? Postpartum diapers take all that away.
That way, you can rest and focus on your precious little one. With traditional pads from the hospital, I found myself constantly adjusting and changing them. I leaked so many times and was so embarrassed.
When I wore postpartum diapers, that all went away!
Postpartum diapers are made especially for heavy bleeding and will absorb everything. Sometimes, even postpartum pads cannot absorb enough to keep up with the heavy flow.
Postpartum Diapers vs. Pads
Here are the pros and cons to both postpartum pads and postpartum diapers to further help you decide what to wear during your 4th trimester.
Postpartum Diaper Pros
- Easy to Use
- Better night protection
- Less leaking
- High waisted to keep in the postpartum belly
- Less postpartum rashes
- Tear away sides for easier disposal
Postpartum Diaper Cons
- Bulkier
- More expensive
- Makes a sound when you walk on some
Maternity Pad Pros
- Free from the hospital
- Cheaper options
- Better for C-sections
- Less noticeable when wearing
- Smaller for traveling
Postpartum Pad Cons
- More rashes
- More leaking
- Hard to adjust
- Have to change frequently

Both maternity pads and diapers are nice to have on hand. Many moms like the combination. It is all about what you want and find helpful.
I found it best to wear postpartum diapers right after giving birth and then switching to maternity pads when the bleeding became lighter after a few weeks.
How Many Postpartum Diapers Do I Need?
Normally, postpartum bleeding is around 4 to 6 weeks. But, every mom is different.
If you decide to wear diapers for the first two weeks when you are heavily bleeding, you will probably need around 40 or so diapers. That is, if you wear 3 diapers a day for two weeks. That usually is around 2 packages.
From there if you are still bleeding after the two weeks, you can always grab more diapers if you liked them or switch to pads.
I grabbed a bundle of 3 postpartum diaper packages and only used two of them. But, that time around I didn’t bleed as much.
