I really struggled with taking showers as a busy mom. I just never felt like it was worth the time.
Most often, as soon as I stepped into the shower and turned on the water, at least one kid was already screaming at me. That’s not a fun shower!
Finally, I learned how to take a good shower as a mom: let my kids have “tablet time” while I showered.
Now, I finally have a self care shower routine at home that I love and do all the time!

Best Self Care Shower Routine
Here is my self-care shower routine that you can follow and enjoy as a mom with kids, along with some of my best shower tips.
Pre-Shower Routine
Before you step under the warm water, preparing your mind and body is key.
First, I always put some calming essential oils in my diffuser to help make my bathroom more relaxing.
Then, I like to do some dry skin brushing. This stimulate your skin’s surface, paving the way for improved circulation and shedding of dead skin cells.

Next I put on either a face scrub or face mask, depending on what basic self care routine I’m feeling that day. It’s one of the 5 minute self care things I try to do as often as I can.
While the mask sets, I then do a arm and leg sugar or salt scrub to further get all the dead skin off my body and prepare to have smooth skin.
Together, these preparatory actions not only help prepare my skin and body, but also helps me practice self-care as a busy mom.

During Shower Routine
Once I’m in the shower, I will just enjoy the hot water for a few minutes. It helps wash off the sugar scrub and helps me practice mindfulness a bit too.
Once I’m ready, I of course will wash my hair, face and body. After everything is washed and ready to go, I will do some affirmations.
I found these incredible water-proof affirmation cards that I keep in my shower. They are amazing!
Finally, when I am finished up with everything, I turn the water cooler. A cool water rinse seals the process, closing your pores and leaving your hair with a sleek shine.
Plus, a cold water shower is so beneficial for your mind, body, and soul.

Post-Shower Routine
After my shower, I don’t pat my skin dry, I simply stay in my towel and take a minute or two to relax.
Then, I rub on some body oil, especially on my pregnant belly. Having some water on my skin helps to absorb the oil and make it more effective.
I get dressed, brush my hair, and then do a skin care routine. I do some face serum followed by some tallow cream. It’s the best shower routine for glowing skin I’ve found!

Showering Tips for Moms
If you are anything like me, you find it hard to shower as a mom with young ones. So here are some shower tips to help you make showering a self-care practice once again.
- Let your kids have “tablet time” or put on a movie for them so you can have time to yourself. It was the only way I could shower without hearing “MOM!!!” 20 times for a 20 minute shower.
- Create a relaxing atmosphere in your bathroom. Dim the lights, use candles or an essential oil diffuser, put on some music and make it your sanctuary.
- Start or finish your shower off with a piece of chocolate. Nothing makes me feel better than taking my time to enjoy a chocolate without my kids around.
- Turn on a playlist that makes you happy! Whether that is pumping music that gets you dancing or Christian music that lifts your spirit, music that you are in the mood for only makes this routine even more powerful.
- Make your own self care shower kit and keep it in the bathroom all together. This will help you to not get frustrated looking for everything before getting started.
- Keep your phone out of the bathroom. You don’t need distractions, this is you time!
These small changes will elevate your daily shower, turning it into a self-care bathroom routine for glowing skin and a refreshed spirit.
