What is a Self Care Kit?

This is basically a mom care package that is geared toward self care. The items inside are things a mom can use or do to practice self care.

While these self care package ideas may be the same items as a new mom survival kit, a survival kit may include other products that wouldn’t work as well for self care (like nipple cream, a haakaa, padsicles, etc.)

These gift boxes are all focused on self-care package ideas and products for new moms.

Top Self Care Kit Ideas for Moms

The best thing about these self care kits for moms is that you can completely personalize them to fit your needs.

Here are some of the best self care gifts moms will not only love but actually really need! They work for any type of moms, including stay at home moms.

Here are some of the best self care box ideas, including what to put in a self-care box for a friend if you are giving it as a gift.

Journal

A journal is such a powerful tool. You can write about anything; it does not have to just be about your day.

Write down your frustrations, how you are feeling, what made you happy today, what you are grateful for, etc.

You can also write using prompts, like these self love journaling prompts. I like to do these prompts during my morning self care routine.

Noise Cancelling Headphones or Loop

Sometimes your kids are just too loud and you need a break. It happens all the time with my two toddlers.

They never seem to stop talking, making noise, or singing, no matter what they are doing. By the end of the day, I just need a few minutes of peace.

Get some noise cancelling headphones and turn on your favorite song. It is so helpful and only takes a few minutes!

You can also try Loop. They are basically a fancy ear plug, but you can still hear when your kids need you or talk to you. They just tune out a lot of the excess noise.

I got some and they are so incredibly helpful for when I get overwhelmed. You will definitely want at least one of these in your mental health self care kit.

Book

If you love to read, get yourself a nice book that makes you happy. It can be a fantasy book, romance, or self-help book.

Whatever makes you happy! If you are making a DIY self care kit for a friend, make sure to include a book you know they will love!

Massage Gun

I think one of the best DIY self care kits ideas is to include a massage gun. I know they can be more expensive, but so worth it.

The best thing about a massage gun is that you can use it on yourself, in case no one else is around to help massage you. It is easy to massage your shoulders, which is where most of the tension is stored.

TENS Unit

If you create your own self-care kit, you might also want to include a TENS unit. I learned about these after going to the chiropractor and quickly ordered one for myself.

I use it multiple times a week and feel so much more relaxed. It gently stimulates the muscles and helps bring your relief.

It works great for your back and neck, but your entire body too! I like to use it right before going to bed.

Face Mask

I love doing a quick face mask right before hopping in the shower. And it is an easy self-care idea for moms that doesn’t take long either!

Try this amazing Probiotic Face Mask. You will be so surprised at how soft your skin is! It helps with acne, detoxing your skin, and also has some anti-aging properties too.

Plus, it is all natural and made with herbs!

I like to do my face routine as one of my self care ideas for moms.

Nail Polish

If you have a couple of minutes, sometimes the best thing to do is make yourself feel good! One way to do that is to paint your nails.

It is so easy and many are fast drying so you can do it while you are at home with your kids. Or do it together!

You can also try some nail stickers.

Body Butter

While this might seem a bit silly, I truly believe that anything you do for yourself can help your mental, emotional, and physical health.

Even something as simple as putting on Body Butter. Find a scent that smells good to you and calms you and use it whenever you need a little pick me up.

It is one of the easiest DIY self care gifts to include. You can make your own body butter or buy some, whatever works!

Peaceful Mama Tea

Drinking tea is one of my self-care Sunday ideas that I love to do. But, I try to drink tea daily too!

My favorite is this peaceful mama tea. It always seems to relax me, but never put me straight to sleep. I like to drink it right after the kids go to sleep for the night.

Eye Mask

In your DIY self care kit for mental health, I would really include an eye mask. There are a variety of types, so choose one that best fits your budget.

You can make your own with flax seeds and lavender for a relaxing one to wear to go to sleep.

There is also a soothing gel eye mask that I use to block out light when I get a headache. I put it in the freezer and the cold is even more powerful for my headaches!

But, my absolute favorite is a eye massager mask. It takes away all the tension in my face and helps me totally calm down in as little as 15 minutes.

Essential Oils for Moms

I love using essential oils, especially for my emotions. Plus, there are thousands of essential oils that could help moms with their self care routine.

I love including oils in my self care gifts because they truly make all the difference in the world.

So many essential oils are great for relaxing and calming down. If anything, include one or two of these oils in your new mom self care kit.

Any of these essential oils will help a mom relax and find peace.

They also make a quick and easy perfume that smells amazing every day even after you haven’t showered and have a baby throw up on your clothes.

Gift Card

If you are making a DIY self care kit for adults or a friend, you can always include a gift card. It can be for Starbucks, a place to eat out, Amazon, or just anything you know they would like.

Sometimes not having to choose something is the best self-care relief!

Positive Affirmations

Positive affirmations are so beneficial for everyone, but especially for moms.

I like to include some positive affirmation cards to help remind me that it is okay to take time for myself.

I have some waterproof cards to use during my self-care shower routine.

Chocolate

You can never go wrong with chocolate! Sometimes a simply candy bar will definitely help a hard day get better.

Sour Candy

If chocolate isn’t your thing, maybe try some sour candy. It might help your brain, and if not, at least you got your favorite treat!

Coloring Book

Adults need to color too! This is a great DIY self care kit for her and moms because you can do it with your kids!

Get them their own coloring book and get an adult coloring book to help you relax too.

Dry Brush

A dry brush is so beneficial for your body and opening up your lymph nodes, and is a great self-care practice.

You can get one for your face or your body and try it out whenever you are feeling stressed. It might feel a bit weird at first, but as you continue to dry brush, it will start to feel so relaxing and good!

Slippers

Everyone loves a nice new pair of slippers. I often forget to put mine on, so if I see them in my self care box, then I remember better.

Sometimes it is just a simple act that can change your entire day around!

Stress Ball

A stress ball is another one of the great self care boxes ideas that I use and love. Not only does it strengthen your hand muscles, but it also helps relieve that built up stress.

I like to use it while I am doing our finances, working, or just when I feel like I am going to explode.

There are a wide range of options for stress balls, so you can personalize and get one you love.

Sensory Stickers

If you don’t care for stress balls or want something smaller, try these sensory stickers. I put one on my computer and it has been a HUGE help with my anxiety and stress while I am working.

When I need some self care or to just relax, I will rub it and focus on my breathing.

It is one of the best things to help me!

Bubble Wrap

If you build you own self care box, put some bubble wrap from your last package that you got inside your kit.

Who doesn’t love to pop bubble wrap? Plus, it is a fun self care idea to do with toddlers too!

Premade Self Care Subscription Boxes

Save yourself some time and get a subscription box for self care! These are great if you don’t have time or want to constantly change up your self care kit.

Cater to Mom

My favorite is from Cater to Mom. They make sure to use natural products that new moms actually need.

You can choose to get a subscription, or one box, whatever works best for you.

They have one for breastfeeding moms or bottle feeding, along with c section or vaginal birth.

I love that they have something for everyone!

Cater to Mom is a pre made new mom box that I completely trust. Use code KATE for 10% off your box!

TheraBox

TheraBox is another one that is made exactly for self care. Each month you get 8 full-sized self care products to enjoy.

Therapists actually help curate this box, so you know it really will help your well-being and self-care routine!

It is one of the most popular self-care subscription boxes, so try it out!
