My Positive Birth and Labor Story

Unfortunately, my first birth did leave me a little traumatized, which is pretty normal.

However, my second birth was a very positive birthing experience that as second time parents we loved!

Now this doesn’t mean there weren’t hard times, but overall, it was a happy and beautiful experience.

I knew I wanted to be induced and have an epidural. My doctor agreed and we set the date.

The day of my son’s arrival was here before we knew it and we excitedly rushed to the hospital. It was so exciting with only a few nerves.

The hospital staff was so happy and kind to us. We were the only ones in the labor and delivery section so we felt like we were truly in a castle!

I quickly got induced and within an hour got my epidural and my water broken.

Around two hours later, I felt an incredible pressure to push. One push and my son was here!

Everything happened so fast which is exactly what I wanted. Previously my first labor was 20 hours, and I was dreading that again.

This time around it was a lot smoother and a positive induction birth experience I would love to have again.

It is also one of the positive big baby birth stories, since he was close to 10 pounds!

Epidural Birth Stories

Many first time giving birth stories use epidurals, which usually mean they are easy birth stories too.

Here are some positive epidural birth stories:

Jasmine Hewitt shared about her beautiful birth story, which included an epidural as well:

“36 hours of labor with an epidural. I had to be induced at 41 weeks which can be scary, but it was in all a positive experience. My birth team was amazing and really supportive! After waiting so long, we were blessed with a healthy 8lbs, 22inch long boy!”

Inducing Birth Stories

Induction is done for a wide variety of reasons from medically necessary to being beneficial at 39 weeks, and so much more.

Here are some positive inducing birth stories:

Rachel Dryer also was induced and loved it! She shared,

“This was my second baby.  (My first and third were extremely painful.)  I was induced around 7 am.  I started to feel contractions around noon.  I had an epidural right away.  Around 7pm I pushed twice.  Baby born, minimal pain.  Super relaxing.”

Home Birth Stories

A natural birth story is quite empowering! Here are some positive home birth stories:

Birdie had two different home births and loved them both!

She shares her second home birth. Here is a short bit of her experience:

“I listened to birth meditations, did lots of spinning babies moves trying to make sure baby was in a good position, walked, went up and down the stairs, did squats, and labored on my yoga ball. I was in pure bliss and excited to meet my baby.

Around midnight, the pain became so intense I couldn’t rest anymore and I was wiggling everywhere. In my half asleep daze, I had a realization. I needed to try and relax work on some breathing techniques during a contraction. At least just try it rather than wiggling and making noise. IT WORKED. My contractions somehow went from intense pain to slightly painful pressure. I found myself back in the blissful and excited state I had been in my first day of labor.

While stopped by a contraction, my body involuntarily started to push and I felt a big warm rush. My water broke! It was such an intense and relieving feeling. A warm gush soaked the diaper and more water trickled when I attempted to move. At this point I whisper yelled attempting to wake my husband up. I quietly yelled “wake up! The baby is coming!”

With another push the baby was out! I layed there in bliss that our sweet baby was there and we both were doing great!”

Positive Natural Birth Stories

Here are some more first time natural birth stories:

Monica shared her hypnobirthing story on her blog. Here is a snippet of what it was like for her:

“Fear and doubt started creeping in when thinking about delivery. I knew I wanted to have a natural birth and I wanted to avoid drugs. Partially to protect the baby from adverse affects of the drugs. Partially to prove myself that I could deliver a baby as nature intended… It was the most intense and yet most calm experience of my life.

I was aware of all the noise and chaos happening around me, but all I could think of was breathing during the surges and visualize my little baby coming out. The room didn’t matter, the pool didn’t matter, nothing mattered but me being in sync with my body. It was so empowering, like I was invincible.” `

It is one of the best natural hospital birth stories I’ve heard!

Jenny also had a wonderful natural birth that was so positive for her and her family:

“While I was getting on my hospital gown, one of the nurses asked if I wanted to labor in the tub.

I had heard that it would decrease the “pain” of my contractions so I said yes, and the nurse left to start filling the tub.

One of the other nurses checked how far I had progressed and guess what?

I was 6 cm dilated!

WHOOT!

I probably would have cried with happiness had another contraction not hit me, taking all of my energy and focus.

Everything on the stress test looked good, so then they wheeled me over to our room in the hospital’s Natural Birth Center.”

Erin also had one of the first time mom stories you want to hear about:

“The shower was my favorite place to be while in labor. The hot, hot water really did help me get through each wave. In the shower, I sat and rocked back and forth on my exercise ball and leaned over a chair.

Gayle and Will took turns spraying me down. My good friend Leanna, who is also a certified massage therapist, arrived sometime around 8:00 a.m. She offered me water while I was in the shower, and she, Will, and Gayle all massaged me and put hot rice packs and the heated wrap on me while I was in the bed. They also took turns giving me sips of water (which Gayle had added Vitamin C powder to), popsicles, and Jell-O.”

C-Section Birth Stories

Even though many do not choose to have a caesarean section, these birth experiences can be positive and wonderful.

Woman seeing her baby right after a c section

Katie Strunk shared her c-section experience on her blog. Here is a short snippet:

“When you plan for a scheduled c-section, it may sound like the scariest thing you have to do. But honestly, it went pretty smoothly.

I get wheeled into the (cold) surgery room. Everything is silver and shiny and cold. They even said it’s chiller then normal in here. Just my luck.

If you are thinking about the “what if I can still feel” they will double check before the doctor comes in and the doctor will make sure you can’t feel anything also. Now I will say this, you will still feel the tugging and pulling but as for the pain, you shouldn’t feel it. And if you start to, tell them, they can pump more medicine into you.

After that uneasy pressure, tugging feeling, a baby is born!

After your baby is out and breathing air instead of fluid, that’s really the only thing you are thinking about. Besides the obvious, when can you hold your baby.”

VBAC Birth Stories

Ashley had a two wonderful VBAC births with two of her kids. One was induced and one was not:

“As soon as I got into my hospital gown, Lauren was on the phone asking the anesthesiologist to come to my room ASAP since I had already progressed so far. My anesthesiologist Christy got my epidural started quickly, and I’ll admit I was super excited to get a break from my contractions. If you’re nervous about IVs, epidurals, and all of the scary medical stuff – don’t be.

Believe me, I was absolutely terrified of all of those things before I had Summer. In fact, I literally hadn’t gotten my blood drawn for TEN YEARS before I got pregnant the first time due to anxiety. Now it’s really not a big deal to me.

Here’s a trick that I’ve learned: let your nurse know that you have anxiety surrounding the process. They’ll distract you, help you breathe, and talk you through the procedure. Talk about your baby, your partner, your family – anything that makes you happy, and BREATHE. It will be over faster than you know it.”

Hospital Birth Stories

Pooja Malkani shared her hospital birth story:

“When I look back at the day I delivered my little one, I thought that was it. By the end of the day, I had achieved something big!

Hardly got time to breathe due to my work hours, since I went through what you may call the busiest pregnancy. Honestly! But, everything happened in a day for me.

A day before I was in the office juggling between tasks, gulping my meals in between, and the next day I was in the hospital tackling labor.

It was my mom’s birthday and I had come home from the office to only do more work at home. While I was wrapping up my home office work (around 4 a.m.), I felt slight pain. I couldn’t sleep so I started walking.

The pain started increasing so I asked my husband to take me to the hospital. I packed my bag with some clothes for me and the baby and headed to the hospital.

We reached the hospital around 7 in the morning. Straight away I went to the labor room and that was it. Every hour the cramping increased, so I walked for a while. The first half was bearable, but the second half got more intense as the cramping kept increasing.

I requested some pain medication around 5:00 p.m. I had my little one in my arms.

The best part about that day was that my son was born the same day my mom was born. I am sure she showered her blessing on me from heaven.”

Anna had a Christmas Day baby at the hospital and shared her wonderful experience:

“I was past 5cm so they let me stay. I was admitted to one of the labor ward rooms together with my husband and I got started on the gas and air, which I always find so good. It is amazing stuff and always gets me through.”

Laura also had a positive birth at the hospital:

“Labor was perfect. We had two of the kindest most wonderful nurses who treated us so well. I had extreme anxiety about having to wear a mask during labor, and they never once made me feel guilty for choosing not to wear one (Ritch wore one when they were in the room to show that we respected them but that I just needed to breathe)! They didn’t even bat an eye when we told them we would be abstaining from many of the typical post-birth protocols (vaxs, eye ointment, etc.”
