Preparing for Pregnancy

Whether you are thinking about getting pregnant in the near future, have just started trying, or have been trying for a while one thing that is important is making sure your body is healthy to prepare it for creating and carrying your baby.

Here are a few pre-pregnancy must haves I found so helpful!

Fertili Boost

Fertili boost is an amazing herbal extract with all the right herbs and ingredients to help you with your fertility.

It helps to balance your hormones naturally, nourishes your body, and supports your adrenals to help you be healthy and prepared for the next nine months!

Progessence Plus

While it has many amazing essential oils that will help with fertility, it also has wild yam extract which is like a natural progesterone straight from nature! That means that it won’t have any of the nasty side effects that synthetic hormones may give you.

Using progesterone before and during the first trimester of pregnancy has been proven to help the fetus implant to the uterus and stay there. It can be applied daily to forearms and inside of ankles to help regulate hormone levels and keep progesterone high which is extremely important for our fertility.

Try Pro+ out! I did during my first trimester for 2 pregnancies, just because I was worried about having another miscarriage.

What to Do When You First Find Out Your Pregnant?

Congratulations! You may be thinking to yourself, “now what?” especially if this is your first pregnancy. Here is a list of things you should do when you first find out you are expecting:

  • Make a doctor’s appointment: Your first prenatal appointment will not be until you are 6-8 weeks along, but you should schedule an initial appointment for a pregnancy test as soon as you suspect you are pregnant.
  • Start eating healthy and keep hydrated: If you are not doing so already, ensure that you are consuming a well-balanced diet. Hydration is important to fetal health as well. Make sure you are drinking 64-96 ounces of water per day. I loved using a huge water bottle so I didn’t have to get up as often.
  • Stock up on all the Free Baby Boxes and Supplies to save time and money for your little one. There are a lot to grab! You will also want to get your pregnancy freebies especially for you as well.
  • Grab some pregnancy affirmation cards to help you throughout the next 9 months!
  • Head on over to Aeroflow and start the process to see if you qualify for a FREE breast pump. It was a lifesaver for my two kids!

Now that we have covered the basic steps you should take after finding out that you are expecting, let’s jump into some must-haves for pregnant women.

Pregnancy Must Haves for All 9 Months

There are a few must-haves for pregnant moms that you will use throughout your entire pregnancy journey – and maybe even beyond, especially if you plan on breastfeeding.

Here are some pregnancy supplies that you can use for all the months!

Moisturizing Body Lotion

While there is no way to prevent stretch marks, ensuring your skin stays moisturized is important throughout your pregnancy. Here are some great options for moisturizing products safe to use:

It is great to apply lotion after you bathe or shower each day or before bed. Make sure to apply to areas prone to stretch the most during pregnancy – belly, hips, thighs, and breasts.

It is one of the must have pregnancy items you’ll want if you don’t want stretch marks.

Pregnancy Pillow

My pregnancy pillow was the only reason I got decent sleep throughout my pregnancy. It was a lifesaver! I personally loved the wedge pregnancy pillow.

There are a few different types of body pillows you can purchase:

Purchasing a pregnancy pillow will keep you in a safe sleep position throughout your pregnancy – especially if you are a back or belly sleeper (like me!). It will also help relieve pressure from your hips and back as your belly grows throughout your pregnancy.

Now that we have touched on products you will use throughout your pregnancy, here are some things a pregnant woman needs during each specific trimester.

Use it as a shopping list for pregnancy necessities or just to figure out some of the top maternity needs.

First Trimester Must Haves

Finding out that you are pregnant is one of the best and most exciting times of your life, but it can also be overwhelming.

You want to make sure you are doing everything you can to keep your baby healthy while also dealing with all of the first trimester symptoms.

Some common pregnancy discomforts during your first trimester of pregnancy are morning sickness and fatigue. Here are some natural products (or solutions) to help alleviate these discomforts to add to your pregnancy essentials kit.

Prenatal Vitamins

As soon as you get pregnant, it is time to start your prenatal vitamins!

I used SmartyPants Prenatal Gummies for my prenatal vitamins all throughout pregnancy and loved that I didn’t have to swallow another pill!

For my 3rd pregnancy, I couldn’t really take vitamins, so I got this Prenatal Nurture Herbal Tincture and it worked better than anything else!

Check out my favorite baby registry to use when I’m pregnant. I can add things for all different stores, plus it comes with a FREE baby box filled with tons of incredible products too!

Morning Sickness Relief

The name can be misleading, as some of us feel it at random times (or all day). Here are some natural remedies that may help you combat nausea.

  • Ginger Chews: one of my top first trimester must haves!
  • Prenatal Tea for Morning Sickness I love Stork’s products for all things pregnancy, postpartum and beyond! They also have amazing Morning Sickness Sweets!
  • Vitamin B6 Supplement: Be sure to talk to your doctor before starting any OTC supplementation.
  • Smooth Sailing Herbal Extract: I used this with my 3rd and it always took away my nausea almost instantly. I never go without it now!
  • Mama’s Tummy Relief is also great to help with morning sickness. Their Pregnancy Tea also can help with an upset stomach while giving you so many important nutrients your body needs for your baby.
  • Essential Oils: lemon either in the diffuser, or in a roller bottle. Smelling it was so helpful for me!

Fatigue

Sleep is crucial for both you and the growing baby, so get in naps while you can. Aromatherapy is also a great natural option to help with pregnancy fatigue.

Lavender, grapefruit, and bergamot are essential oils to use to help with fatigue. Apply topically, diffuse, or ask your partner for a massage using your oils.  I also love this Sleep Blend and this amazing Good Night Lotion that uses magnesium to further help you sleep better.

Energy Plus is another amazing herbal supplement that gives you natural iron to help with energy and fatigue.

I found using a Sleep Tea Blend also helped my body to wind down before falling asleep. This one is great for pregnant women.

Check out these top pregnancy tips you’ve probably never read before!

Pregnancy Journal

If you want to keep track of your pregnancy, get a beautiful pregnancy journal. There are digital options or physical books.

If this is your first pregnancy, you will want to treasure it forever! You can even add in each ultrasound to look back on when your kids are older.

Second Trimester Must Haves

This may be one of my favorite times in pregnancy! If you have been sick, hopefully, that will begin to slow down. Energy levels usually pick back up!

Here are some maternity must haves for the second trimester:

Back and Hip Pain

During the second trimester, your back and hips start to take a hit. I have found a few miracle workers that help with back and hip pain.

This Magic Muscle Ease is amazing and the citrus version is safe during pregnancy!

Copaiba oil is also my go to for anything related to pain. Helichrysum is also a good one that is safe for pregnant moms.

An exercise ball is great to use during any stage of pregnancy, but I would recommend purchasing one during the second trimester if you have not done so already. It will help keep your hips stretched out and relieve any aches and pains in your hips and back.

During your third trimester you might want to take a lot of soothing baths. Learn all about lavender Epsom salt bath safety for pregnant woman and find some relief today!

One thing I tried out during my 3rd pregnancy were a spiky and lacrosse ball set. It was AMAZING. I rolled it between a wall on my glutes and it helped with my pelvic pain more than anything else.

These balls also really helped my calf cramps and my achy pregnancy feet too. I can’t live without these!

Maternity Clothing

Many people think maternity clothes are one of the first things to buy when pregnant for baby, but you can wait until you start having a bigger bump, which is usually the second trimester.

The second trimester is notorious for the stage when everything you own no longer starts to fit or becomes highly uncomfortable. Investing in bras, underwear, and clothing that is comfortable and fits you is essential to your well-being during this stage.

I found maternity clothing was more expensive than regular clothing, and I likely wouldn’t wear any of it after I gave birth. I chose just to purchase regular clothing – that was still comfortable being pregnant – and sized up.

There was still maternity clothes I purchased, but I went to second-hand stores as they were much cheaper and I didn’t wear them as often. Mercari was one I found a lot of great ones!

Maternity leggings are a great option – especially if you can get away with wearing them all day. Many pregnancy moms love these leggings off Amazon that work great for postpartum as well.

I’m more of a maternity jeans type of person, I just love jeans. These maternity jeans were so comfy to me!

If you prefer to wear your normal jeans, then I would suggest purchasing a belly band. They also provide great support to your growing belly during the end of your pregnancy.

Nursing Bras

Depending on how fast your breasts are changing and your breast size before pregnancy, you may get away with wearing sports bras until the end of your second trimester – maybe the third. I found nursing bras more comfortable, and I used them while breastfeeding as well.

I found the wireless nursing bras to be more comfortable. There are a ton of different styles you can purchase on Amazon.  I bought a bundle pack, which included five nursing bras that were so comfy!

It is another one of the things on the pregnancy essentials list some people forget to grab!

Comfortable Shoes

I actually preferred the Hawaii Sandals the best throughout pregnancy and daily life.

My feet before pregnancy were about a 7.5 shoe size, but during it went up to 10!

You will want as comfy shoes as possible.

Hey Dudes are now what I would probably wear if I get pregnant again.

Iron

Most pregnant women need to take an iron supplement around the end of the second trimester. Your doctor will more than likely test your blood and see.

I noticed I was so exhausted early on in the pregnancy, and decided to take iron. But, it made me so constipated, I couldn’t handle it.

But then I tried Energy Plus from Earthley, and it made all the difference! I had energy and wasn’t blocked up.

My doctor, the month before testing my blood said these exact words, “I highly expect you to be low in iron and need a supplement.”

However, my bloodwork showed I was perfectly fine, so Energy Plus really does work!

Third Trimester Must Haves

As you are likely purchasing items to prepare for the baby’s arrival, here are a couple of things you can add to your pregnancy list of things to buy  for you during the last stage of pregnancy.

You may be able to breathe a big sigh of relief now that baby is starting to settle into your pelvis and off of your lungs! But with each stage brings their own sets of discomfort.

Let’s talk about the pregnancy must haves for the third trimester to help us get through this last stretch, and prepare for your baby!

Braxon Hicks Essential

I don’t know about you, but my Braxton Hicks contractions started at exactly 20 weeks with each pregnancy.

I used the Gentle Baby Blend from Young Living to help my body calm down and wait until I was ready to give birth.

Sleep Essentials

Pregnancy insomnia is the worst for me during the third trimester. You can use the methods above that are great for pregnancy fatigue, but here are a couple of other options as well.

Stretch or do a little bit of yoga before going to bed and while diffusing your essential oils. FitOn is my favorite app to finding prenatal exercises and stretches.

I also found that a nice bath with Epsom salts and lavender helped to further calm my body down and helped me get a night of better deep sleep. Here is a great lavender bath salts recipe that you can easily make today.

Sometimes when I still have a hard time sleeping, I will use a sleep meditation. I love the one from FitOn, but any should work great.

Sleepy Time is another great natural product to help you sleep that is safe during pregnancy.

Circulation Must Haves

Circulation is becoming a bit of an issue at this point in your pregnancy, so in addition to keeping those legs moving and elevated when not on your feet, try this:

Rub some Cypress and Grapefruit on your legs and feet. This helped me tremendously to the point where I didn’t even swell up like I did with my first!

Sore and swollen feet are a common pregnancy discomfort in the third trimester, I mean, you are now carrying around a tiny human 24/7.

I added this herbal foot soak to my bath water or hot water in a large bowl that I could soak my feet in.

Compression socks can further help with circulation and less swelling.

Pelvic Support Belt

Carrying a baby hurts, especially toward the end. If you are having a lot of back and pelvic pain, try a pelvic support belt.

I was skeptical of these, but when I finally got one, I was surprised how helpful it was! It really did help relieve some of my pelvic pain.

Red Raspberry Leaf

Red Raspberry Leaf is an incredible herb to help tone the uterus and prepare it for giving birth. Many people use red raspberry leaf tea throughout pregnancy, but I had trouble drinking it.

But, when I found this Red Raspberry Leaf Extract, I took it daily during my 3rd trimester and it was a lifesaver.

Giving birth was faster and easier, and postpartum recovery was better too!

Be sure to talk to your doctor before taking just in case!

Pregnancy Things to Buy FAQs

What should I buy in first trimester?

You will want to get some prenatal vitamins, some ginger chews for morning sickness, and a pregnancy journal!

How many weeks pregnant should you start buying things?

You shouldn’t buy baby things until at least 20 weeks, when you can know the gender and it is less likely to have a miscarriage. I bought at 8 weeks and miscarried at 12 weeks and it was very difficult to see the baby items I bought.
